From the Brussels airport, you can reach Bruges in about one hour and Ghent in about half an hour–check the train schedule for your times specifically, but all of these routes are incredibly popular and run several times a day.
As a minimum, we recommend 3-4 days in Belgium. With 3 days, you can briefly visit the most beautiful cities such as Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, and Bruges. If you have 4 days, you can also visit some of the famous Belgian war sites.

- Ghent has charm, but whereas Brussels is worth at least 2-3 days, Bruges 1-2 days, I would give Ghent one day including travel time from Brussels and tram from train station to the small area of interest. Stay in Ghent, in between Bruges and Brussels, so you don't have to change hotels. I'd say 4 days for the 3 places.
- Ideally, spend one full day in Bruges and one full day in Ghent to have the best experience. You get to slow down and savor these cities. We did feel rushed while in Bruges, trying to see as much as possible while still saving time for Ghent. You have the option to only visit Bruges, of course, skipping Ghent completely.
